Introduction
Macrostomum lignano is a small free-living flatworm belonging to the basal rhabditophoran taxon Macrostomorpha. Its origin is in the Mediterranean Sea and it is easy to culture in large numbers in the lab. So far, it is primarily used for developmental, evolutionary and ecotoxicological studies by research labs in Europe and the USA.
